MoMA & the allure of celebrity
Tuesday, March 26, 2013
MoMA is really into celebrities. Jerry Saltz comments on Tilda Swinton's naptime event as well as the general trend of celeb culture infiltrating the museum here.
And Jerry's not making this up...James Franco was tapped by Klaus Biesenbach for a "Summer School" project two summers ago that sort of fell flat. The celebrity nature of the programming over at MoMA and PS1 is no joke.

Featuring: Ruby Amanze, Firelei Báez, Oasa DuVerney, Sanam Enayati, Heeseop Yoon
Curated by: Dexter Wimberly and Larry Ossei-Mensah
Drawing Now is an exhibition of new works by a culturally diverse group of emerging female artists. The exhibition aims to showcase the exciting new ideas these under-the-radar artists are exploring through their artistic practice. Drawing Now will present distinct and experimental approaches to both representational and abstract drawing. The exhibition will also include large- scale drawing installations that push the medium to its extremes, with dramatic effect.

Heeseop Yoon in her studio.
The exhibition also seeks to present the new ways these artists are re-defining drawing, and to explore how drawing fits into the broader contemporary art conversation, as opposed to the more prevalent presentations of paintings, video, sculpture or performance work.
