Mixed Greens @ PULSE Miami (and Part 1 of my Miami Rundown)

Ohhh, Miami. I've just barely recovered, but I'm back in New York and I'm ready to start posting pics. There's a lot to share, so bear with me...this might take a few entries.

The most important thing to note about this year's fairs was the overall SUCCESS I witnessed. And I'm thinking of success in terms of sales, quality of the artwork shown, attendance, and excellent weather. It was an excellent, excellent time.

Let's begin with the PULSE fair (and yes, I might be biased because Mixed Greens participated in Pulse), but I will say that of all of the satellites I visited, it was my favorite. Aside from having some of the best booths, it was well-located & easy to get to, had nearby parking, and was a comfortable fair to hang out at--lots of lounging/eating/drinking. It was the ultimate afternoon activity on the Miami agenda. Paddy Johnson gave Pulse a nice mention: not her #1 favorite satellite, but she did mention the hammocks. Unfortunately she also made it sound like Pulse is new to the Ice Palace (it was in the same location in 2009).

You might recall that last year I was pretty high on the NADA fair. Well this year I couldn't catch a break. It was this year's "It Ain't Fair" Fair experience. TWICE I tried to visit, and twice I couldn't find parking (valet was full, and there was a serious lack of street parking). This fair might only be reachable by shuttle (but then you're doomed to wait in front of the convention center for 30 minutes for the van). As much as I like the ballroom interior of the Deauville Resort, 68th street is WAAAAY up there. I guess last year I wasn't driving, so I didn't experience this problem.





Above are some nice shots of the lounge-like atmosphere I was talking about. I believe it was this fair where I noticed the most attendees "hanging around" for long periods of time. It was comfortable, laid-back, and consistent as ever with a high quality of art work presented in immaculate booths.



I even saw a few more prices this year on wall labels!

We were showing work by Sonya Blesofsky, Kim Beck, and Suzanne Song in our booth. It was busy, busy scene every day! Congrats to Monica and Steven on all of the success!!

to sum it all up, the PULSE fair was:

- accessible
- beautiful
- comfortable
- pretty much a buying frenzy (red dots everywhere & big ticket sales reported)
