Chicago Expo, Art Theft, and other must read news
EXPO CHICAGO FAIR"Like all fairs, it takes a while to get engrained in people’s calendars" (Anthony Meier, Anthony Meier Fine Arts)
"I’m confident in the long-term play here" (Tony Karman)
"It was difficult to discern how many people were there." (Rhona Hoffman)
"I never thought we'd be coming back to Chicago." (Frank Maresca, Ricco/Maresca)
Wow-sers. IF the above quotes from Julia Halperin's Artinfo.com article tell you anything about Chicago's Expo fair, those familiar, passive, indirect comments suggest total failure.
REGARDING WARHOL @ The Met
Adam Lindemann didn't like it. And sadly, neither did I. Ahhhh, Michael Jackson and Bubbles, we meet again! Just saw you last December at LACMA. Gober wall paper--hmm...like New Museum in 2010? Helium-filled silver pillows were reminiscent of a recent Armory show. Verdict: same old, same old.
SANTA MONICA ART HEIST
If you know anything about anything, looks like there's a $1.7 Million reward. The thieves stole his Mondrian (among other major works), some fine wines, and a Porsche. Ouch. My first thought: why take the art (it won't be easy to sell), and my second thought: what kind of security system was he using??
